You’ve booked your spot, packed your bag, and told everyone back home you’re spending a month dancing in Los Angeles – the global hub for commercial dance training. But what does that month actually feel like? Here’s the honest week-by-week breakdown of our L.A. dance program.
Week 1: The AMAZING Chaos
What You’ll Do:
- Arrive and get settled into the dancer dorm
- Meet your dance captain and dancers (face to face)
- Get your TAP card and sort our studio passes
- Orientation: studio etiquette, how everything works
- Start taking classes at all L.A.’s dance studios
- First group activity – Los Angeles city tour!
What You’ll Feel:
Not going to lie, week one is hard. You’re jet-lagged, everything’s in a new language (even if you speak English, L.A. dance culture has its own vocabulary). The studios are packed with dancers who’ve been training here for years. There are A LOT of studios and classes to choose from. The choice is overwhelming. Then there’s the amount of choreo. Then there’s the camera. You’re learning names, faces, metro lines, and choreography all at once. Your first time dancing in Los Angeles is overwhelming, exciting, and exhausting all at the same time.
But don’t worry. Your dance captain will be dancing right by your side this week. They’ve been exactly where you are, and they know how to help you navigate the beautiful chaos. You have your dance sisters as well. The program was created with the idea that dancers help dancers. That you are experiencing dancing in Los Angeles for a month – TOGETHER.
Week 2: Finding Your Rhythm
What You’ll Do:
- Continue to plan the class schedule that works for you
- Explore different studios, new styles, and find your favorite choreographers
- Group activities continue
- Your group private sessions with The Gentle Ladies
- Navigate L.A. like you actually live here
What You’ll Feel:
Something clicks in week two. You know which bus gets you to Millennium. You’re excited (not scared) to take that freestyle class at Movement Lifestyle. You recognize faces in class. You’re not just surviving the choreography. You’re actually dancing. The confidence builds. You stop feeling like a tourist and start feeling like part of the community. Your cohort goes from strangers to friends. Late-night chats in the dorm, post-class food runs, shoe shopping. This is when dancing in L.A. gets good.
Week 3: You’re Killing It (But You’re Tired)
What You’ll Do:
- Private group sessions continue with The Gentle Ladies to work on specific skills
- Professional photo shoot – multiple looks, individual and group shots (No BORING poses)
- More activities, more classes, more fun
- Push yourself in ways you didn’t think possible
What You’ll Feel:
Week three is bittersweet. You’re taking loads of classes and not just keeping up but feeling it. You’re friends with people from different countries, you have your favorite coffee spot, and you know how to get around. You walk into studios with confidence. You’re killing it.
But then it hits you: the month is half over. That countdown that felt so long suddenly feels short. You’re tired – physically from dancing six days a week, emotionally from putting yourself out there every single day. But you don’t want to slow down because you know what’s coming.
Week 4: The Goodbye Week
What You’ll Do:
- Final classes, soaking up every moment
- Final group activity
- Make plans to stay connected and visit each other
- Say goodbye to the city, the studios, your dance captain, your cohort
What You’ll Feel:
Week four is a mix of pride and sadness. You look back at week one, you – the jet-lagged, overwhelmed, nervous dancer – and barely recognize them. You’ve grown so much. You have professional photos, studio connections, choreography in your body, and a group of people who became your dance family.
You’re sad it’s ending, but you’re also grateful. Grateful for the experience, the growth, the friendships. You leave L.A. different than when you arrived. More confident. More connected. More sure of yourself as a dancer.
And you’re already planning when you’ll come back.
Why Train in Los Angeles for a Month?
A month isn’t arbitrary. Week one breaks you open. Week two builds you up. Week three challenges you. Week four sends you home transformed and energized.
One month is our signature dance program. It’s the perfect balance of time to train and grow without burning out. For dancers with tighter schedules or returning dancers who want a pure dance experience, we also offer a two-week dance intensive. But if you want the full L.A. dance experience, a month is where the magic happens.
