FAQs - LOS ANGELES U.S. HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM

LOS ANGELES U.S. HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM

Our program is for international high school students under 18 years old who want to do something very specific in Los Angeles, that our city does well. This is the arts. So we accept a high number of dancers, actors, singers, musicians, photographers, painters, designers, stylists, etc. who want to further their training in Los Angeles.

So if you are a skateboarder, basketball or soccer player, L.A. is your town, too. Tell us why you want to study in L.A. because we look at students who have a passion, a hobby and who want to do something that L.A. does REALLY WELL.

We will take care of finding you a host family match, enrolling you in school, assisting you with your training program and schedule, monthly activities and monitoring your progress and assimilation to life in Los Angeles.

PROGRAM TYPES

We offer the following options: semester, Summer in L.A., Summer in L.A. + semester, academic year.

SCHOOLS

We work with public schools: Birmingham Community Charter, Grant High School, Hollywood High School and will look at others based on the students’ needs, host family location, etc. Due to the size of L.A., students will attend the high school in the host family’s neighborhood. We do have online options for working actors and dancers and those with demanding training schedules.

TRANSPORTATION

It is the student’s job to get to school and training. L.A. is huge and our students must understand that it will take time to get places and need to plan accordingly. We will assist each student in obtaining their discounted student METRO pass and showing them how the METRO system works.

PROGRAM INCLUDES

• Enrollment in the high school nearest to the host family or that best matches the student
• Matching the student with one of our host families
• The host family takes care of room and board: three meals a day, support, help with school, activities, a family structure
• Creating the student’s arts program sheet to help maximize training
• Organizing group activities to explore L.A.
• Monitoring our young artist integration into the host family and high school

PROGRAM DOES NOT INCLUDE

• Airfare
• Mandatory health insurance
• Monthly expenses like $24 a month unlimited METRO pass or cell phone
• Arts training as it varies per student level, career goals, etc. Note: arts training options will be listed on the student’s program sheet
• Pocket money

PROGRAM SUPPORT

Students will be a part of the L.A. Cultural Exchange student family, which will include other U.S. students as well as an eclectic group of hand-selected international exchange students. We are a very small, arts-focused program that selects 12 students a semester only. The Program Managers are available 24/7, and live in the San Fernando Valley neighborhoods of L.A. where our program is located.

PROGRAM LOCATION

Our program, host families, schools and training facilities are located in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles, primarily in the NoHo Arts District in North Hollywood. This is accessible to major modes of transportation, including two METRO subway lines for easy access to school, home, arts training and all of Los Angeles.

THE NOHO ARTS DISTRICT

The NoHo Arts District is Los Angeles' official arts district located in the North Hollywood neighborhood. NoHo is filled with 20+ theatres, professional dance studios, acting studios, art galleries, recording studios, boutiques and a myriad of dining options and venues that give us one-of-a-kind events.

PROGRAM SHEET & TRAINING

We will create a program sheet for each student listing the various schools, workshops and training options based on the student’s experience and goals. We will assist them with the best course of training. All program sheets are individualized for each student.

HOST FAMILY

We take great care in matching our students with their L.A. family. Our families host for a variety of reasons. But all of them have the desire to open their home and help young artists fulfill their dreams. You will be a member of the family. You will have breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinner, dessert in your home. You will be comfortable, have Wi-Fi of course, and enjoy life in L.A. as a teenager. This will be your home, not a hotel. You’ll see why L.A. is so diverse and amazing.
